Zakat al-Fitr  is a  charity  taken for the  poor  a few days before the end of  fasting  in the  Islamic holy month  of  Ramadan . The  Arabic  word  Fitr  means the same as  iftar , breaking a fast, and it comes from the same  root word  as  Futoo  which means  breakfast . Zakat al Fitr is a smaller amount than  Zakat al-Mal . Sadaqat al-Fitr  is a duty which is  wajib  (required) of every  Muslim , whether male or female, minor or adult as long as they have the means to do so. According to Islamic tradition ( Sunnah ),  Ibn 'Umar  said that the Islamic Prophet  Muhammad  made  Zakat al-Fitr  compulsory on every  slave ,  freeman , male, female, young and old among the Muslims; one  Saa`  of dried dates or one Saa` of barley. Some commentators believe that the revelation of Quran occurred in phases, with the first phase being the revelation in its entirety on Laylat al-Qadr to the  angel   Gabriel  ( Jibril  in Arabic) in the lowest heaven, and then the subsequent verse-by-verse revelation to Muhammad by Gabriel.  The revelation started in 610 CE at the  Hira  cave on Mount Nur in Mecca. Laylat al-Qadr   variously rendered in English as the Night of Decree, Night of Power, Night of Value, Night of Destiny, or Night of Measures, is, in Islamic belief, the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad.[5] It is one of the nights of the last ten days of Ramadan. Muslims believe that on this night the blessings and mercy of God are abundant, sins are forgiven, supplications are accepted, and that the annual decree is revealed to the angels who also descend to earth, specially the Angel Gabriel, referred to as "the Spirit", to perform every and any errand decreed by God. Islam holds that God Almighty alone answers our supplications and that He alone receives them and forgives humanity and gives them what they ask for and that on this particular night Muslims should actively seek God's forgiveness and engage in various acts of worship. إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ - 97:1 Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree. وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ - 97:2 And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ - 97:3 The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. تَنَزَّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍ - 97:4 The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. سَلَامٌ هِيَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ - 97:5 Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.

A healthy diet doesn’t focus on what you cannot eat, rather on the importance of what you eat and because of this period we are in, where Muslims are observing their obligatory fast – what is importanter is what you eat during those non-fasting hours. Allah pescribed fasting for us in Surah Al-Baqarah. But as the religion of Islam is simple and easy, He gave us some exemptions which are as follows: 1.  Pre-pubescent children : Children who have not gotten to the stage of puberty are not obliged to fast though some do so and some fast half a day to train themselves. 2. Pregnant women/Nursing mothers : Pregnant women are not obliged to fast as the need to eat to get nutrient for the foetus while nursing mothers need to eat in other to have enough nutrient and energy to breastfeed her baby. 3. An Aged Person : A person at old age is also exempted from fasting 4. A Diseased Person : A person suffering from a particular is not expected to fast as he/she may not have enough energy and immunity to fast or may have to use his/her medications during the day 5. #10: ‘Umrah Performed in Ramadan is Equivalent to Hajj One of th greatest virtues of Ramadan is that, an ‘Umrah performed in Ramadan carries the reward of performing Ḥajj in the company of the Prophet ṣallā Allāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam . According to Imām al-Bukhārī and Muslim in a ḥadīth they authenticated from the narration of Sayyidinā Abdillāh ibn ‘Abbās raḍiya Allāhu ‘anhumā . He said: The Messenger of Allah ṣallā Allāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “‘Umrah in Ramadan is equivalent to Hajj with me.” If the reward for performing ‘Umrah in Ramadan was to be equivalent to performing Ḥajj , that would have been satisfying enough. What, then, when the reward promised, is equivalent to the reward of performing Ḥajj with the Prophet ṣallā Allāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam ?
